Bedienen sich nicht alle aus ein und demselben Topf von Weisheiten, der grösser wird, wird man älter? Leuchten Erklärungen zwischenmenschlicher Beziehungen nicht aus eben diesem Grund ein - weil sie von allen nach den gleichen, allgemein anerkannten Maßstäben beurteilt werden und somit nachvollziehbar sind?

Trotz der Anonymität, die den Stadtalltag prägt, überschneiden sich die Lebensstränge der Protagonisten dieses Episodenromans. Bezie-hungen entstehen oft anhand von Kleinigkeiten: Erinnerungen an Fahrräder, Unfälle, obskure Freitage und nicht zuletzt durch ein Manifest, die Allliance Abstract, eine unsichtbare Macht, welche von ihren Anhängern verlangt, mit allen Konven-tionen zu brechen. Könnte es also sein, dass eine einsiedlerische Obdachlose, eine verhärtete Karrierefrau, sowie eine verträumte Hausmeisterin, eine unscheinbare Apothekerin und einen gequälten Zwangsneurotiker mehr verbindet, als sie sich selbst eingestehen möchten? Mögen sie auch noch so verschieden denken und fühlen. Mögen ihre Leben auch noch so abstrakt erscheinen. Trägt letztendlich nicht jeder in sich einen kleinen Baustein der Alliance Abstrakt? Dies zu entdecken liegt nun in der Hand des Lesers - so wie der Anfang und das Ende ...

Don't people serve themselves from one and the same pot of wisdom, continually expanding in size as we grow older? Isn't this exactly how we can make sense of human relationships, because we are used to judging them according to established standards allowing us to understand them?

Despite the anonymity characterizing big city life, the protagonists' threads of life overlap. Relation-
ships are created via small incidents, such as shared memories of bycicles, accidents, obscure fridays, and last but not least by the dubious power of a manifesto, the Alliance Abstrakt, a philosophy demanding followers to break with all of societies conventions. Could it be that a hermit-like homeless, a cold-hearted career woman as well as a dreamy caretaker, a mousy pharmacist and a haunted neurotic have more in common than they would like to admit? As much as their ways of thinking and feeling may differ? Even if their lives might seem to be mere abstractions. Doesn't everybody carry his or her bits and pieces of the Alliance Abstrakt, after all? The process of uncovering to what extent this might be true is up to the reader - as are the beginning and the end ...
